FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
How can I find out which Vestamatic device I have?
The model designation or article number can be found on the rating plate on the back of the product or on the packaging label.
If this information is no longer legible, simply send our support team a photo of your device. In most cases, this allows us to quickly identify the correct model.
Where can I find the operating instructions for my device?
The operating instructions for all products in our current range can be found on the respective product page. View products

Operating instructions for products that are no longer part of our current range are available free of charge in the product archive on our website. Go to the product archive
Which sensors are compatible with my control unit?
https://vestamatic.com/en/category/automation/controls/conventional-shading-controlsCompatibility depends on the respective control unit model. Not every sun, wind or rain sensor can be used with every control unit.
You can find information about compatible sensors both in the operating instructions and on the respective product pages. View shading control units.
Can I replace an old Vestamatic switch with a new model?
In many cases, replacement is possible. However, whether a new device is compatible depends on the existing motor, wiring and sensors used.
Compare the technical specifications or contact our support team.
What is the difference between a timer and a shading control unit?
A timer automatically moves your roller shutter or venetian blind up and down at predefined times.
A shading control unit additionally takes sensor data into account, for example from sun, wind or rain sensors. This allows the shading system to respond automatically to weather conditions and helps protect both the building and the shading system.
What does the Astro function mean?
The Astro function calculates the daily sunrise and sunset times based on your location. This automatically adjusts the switching times according to the season.
This means you do not have to regularly adjust the travel times manually and can benefit from convenient automatic operation throughout the year.
What is the Random function used for?
The Random function shifts the programmed switching times by a few minutes each day.
This can make the house appear occupied even when you are away and may give potential intruders the impression that people are inside the building.
Do I have to change between summer and winter time manually?
This depends on the model.
Newer Vestamatic timers often feature automatic summer/winter time changeover. With older devices, the time may need to be adjusted manually. Detailed information can be found in the respective operating instructions.
Operation and Programming
Can I replace my timer myself?
As a general rule, replacement must only be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Since timers are connected directly to the 230 V mains supply, improper installation can result in a risk of fatal electric shock.
How do I reset my timer to the factory settings?
Depending on the model, the reset is performed using a button combination or a recessed Reset button. The exact procedure can be found in the respective operating instructions.
How do I programme new Up and Down times for the shading system?
Programming is carried out directly using the buttons on your timer. Depending on the model, several switching times per day or individual weekly programmes can be stored.
Detailed instructions can be found in the operating instructions for your device.
Can I connect multiple motors to one timer?
This depends on the respective product and the connected motors. Many standard timers are designed to control a single motor. If several drives are to be operated together using one timer, suitable control units are required.
For applications with multiple motors, Vestamatic offers solutions such as the UNI 22, the Touch Centre and various motor control units, which – depending on the version – are suitable for controlling multiple drives.
The appropriate solution for your installation should be selected together with your qualified electrician. Please also refer to the technical specifications of the respective device or contact our support team – we will be happy to assist you.
What do the LEDs on my control unit indicate?
The meaning of the LEDs depends on the model. Depending on the device, they may indicate, for example, the operating status, an active automatic function, the radio connection or a fault.
A detailed description can be found in the operating instructions for your product.
Troubleshooting
My timer no longer shows anything on the display. What can I do?
If the display remains switched off, there may be a fault in the electronics or the internal power supply. In this case, the device should be checked or replaced by a qualified electrician.
After a power failure, the time and switching times are no longer correct.
Newer devices have a power reserve or integrated memory. Check the time and then check all programmed switching times.
My shading system no longer operates automatically. What could be the cause?
First check:
- Is the automatic function activated?
- Are the time and switching times correct?
- Has holiday mode or manual mode been activated accidentally?
- Is the power supply available?
If the shading system can be operated using the manual button, the cause is often an incorrect timer setting.
The shading system operates at the wrong time.
Even an incorrectly set summer or winter time can cause the roller shutter to operate one hour too early or too late. Also check whether individual switching times have been programmed for specific days of the week.
My shading control unit no longer responds to the sensor.
First check:
- Is the sensor connected correctly?
- Is the sensor clean and unobstructed?
- Are the configured threshold values correct?
The sensor may also have been accidentally deactivated in the settings.
My shading system only operates in one direction. What could be the cause?
Possible causes include:
- incorrect wiring
- a fault in the control unit
- an activated locking function
- a fault in the motor
First check whether the shading system can be operated manually in both directions. If this is not possible, the cause is usually the motor or the installation. In this case, please consult a qualified electrician.
The motor hums but does not move. What does this mean?
If the motor can be heard operating but the roller shutter does not move, there may be a mechanical problem.
Possible causes include a blocked roller shutter, damaged suspension components or a mechanism that is difficult to move. Switch off the motor and have the system checked by a qualified technician to prevent further damage.
My central control unit no longer works. What can I do?
First check the power supply and all connected control units.
Also check whether any fuses have tripped or whether individual devices can still be operated manually. If the problem persists, please contact your specialist installer or our technical support team.
